Jan M. McVey, OD specializes in understanding how the human eye really works, as well as diseases and conditions that affect your vision - many of which do not have obvious symptoms. Eye doctors know how age and risk factors affect vision over time for young and old, and they understand the benefits and features of corrective lenses including eyeglasses and contacts.
Our Glendale optometrist takes the time to explain the results of your eye exam, describe your options and listen to your eye care needs. Because maintaining good eye health is an ongoing partnership, we encourage you to ask questions and share your health information, which could be vital to monitoring, diagnosing and treating potential vision problems.
Meet Our Glendale Eye Doctor:
Dr. McVey decided to be an optometrist when she was 16 years old in Kingman, Arizona. She used her first paycheck as a lifeguard at the swimming pool to buy her own contact lenses. She had a difficult time adapting and spent a lot of time in the optometry office, which she found she liked. Since graduating from optometry school in Oregon in 1978, she has served in the Indian Health Service, completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Yale Medical School, and worked in group practice and several commercial sites. She took over the private practice of a Glendale doctor over twenty years ago.
She still really loves what she does because of the close personal relationships that develop over the years of seeing patients and their families. One of the best days of her career was when she realized that the child she was examining was the great grandchild of another one of her patients.
She leads an active life, which includes living with cattle dogs, fly fishing, scuba diving, yoga, running, swimming, cooking, baking, reading and vegetable gardening.
She has held numerous professional positions but believes if you have to brag about it, it loses it's goodness. Dr. McVey is especially excited about the new office that she was able to design herself. She feels it is comfortable, inviting and incorporates her love of the outdoors.
